i have lost the drive to write. its not that i dont have the will, i just dont have that push. im not surrounded by those that enjoy my love for poetry. i dont have a crew or a clique to share pieces with or bounce idea off of. people that will push me to become a better writer....i would love to have that. to just sit at a table, floor or couch with other folks and just write...then share...then write some more, would be a beautiful thing.
the poetry scene here in St.Louis is so divided...slam poets dont frequent the open mic spots and vice versa. or poets who run an open mic, wont go to another spots open mic. it depresses me that its like this. i was talking to a local poet/musician named David L. Jackson about this very issue (glad im not the only one to see it)and we laughed at how such a small city could be so divided. but this is the same city where most of the local poets didnt turnout for the National Poetry Slam...wtf!
i see a city like Charlotte...where it doesnt matter what the poetry is called, poets are gonna show up to SUPPORT each other. hell, the folks in Charlotte hangout with each from time to time. im sure the poets here do that...im just not PART of that circle but would join if asked,lol. whats really crazy is that i have the numbers of more out of town poets than i do local poets.
it would be wonderful if: after i spit a piece, one of the established poets came to me with pointers on how to make the piece better or where i went wrong with my delivery. in all the times i have spit, it has happened only once at a slam...by an older poet who's names i cant remember but his gesture moved me. i was in awe that the brother was speaking to me AND that he enjoyed MY piece. i felt like a little kid being givin advice by his grandfather...it was so cool.
i really hope that the Poetry scene here finds some unity, starts supporting each
other and leave the politics to the politicians. maybe i need to move to Austin cause they all seem close. crazy but close.

LOL, yep we are crazy at times quite dysfunctional..ok all the time but the passion for this poetry scene is strong. i can brag about how we hang strong and do things together even outside of poetry...but i won't.
but u know we love ya from afar, and will always have a spot for you in our circle if ya ever decide to move this way or just come for an extended visit LOL hint hint
yes, you need to bring your ass. Cause there is definitly support for growth here.

speaking as a person who deeply benefits from the interaction, you're right, it is beneficial AND vital for your growth as a writer/poet. i agree with shelle, we can show you love from afar all day, but like yourself, i do understand that it's just not the same as being there.

baby, send us your words, we'll send honest critic and love.... we got ya... i really don't do writing groups and labs... i rely on Mo B and Funky Mike, at times Cousin to review my work... I prefer writing alone, very sensitive and possessive about creative energy and space...
