Finally

i finally got to see Dreamgirls (bootleg version).......add me to the list of those singing its praises! Jennifer Hudson did a great job as Effie, as did Jamie Foxx as Curtis, i can see why she is receiving all these awards. she put her all into the role and played it to the hilt.

big up to Eddie Murphy as James Thunder Early. i didnt think Eddie could be THAT serious.

i never got to see the Broadway version but it would be nice to.....because IT, had some powerhouse singers in the roles. yea Jennifer can SANG and the Beyonce can sing but.....just listening to the soundtrack of the Broadway version could bring one to tears. Jennifer Holiday singing; "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going"....shooo even as a kids, this song always did me in. i hope that the popularity of the movie will cause them to release a dvd version of the play. it would be great to see Sheryl Lee Ralph and Loretta Devine in their respective roles.

I still enjoyed the movie version though....i could see Diana Ross and the Supremes, Barry Gordy and the Motown sound all in the movie. Cause Diana Ross, really cant sing and couldnt act for shyt! Yet, she had that appeal that people love....and Barry Gordy was a control freak.

Best believe I will be buying the original when it comes out.....the bootleg version is VERY good but i liked the movie THAT much.

PS

big ups to to Grey's Anatomy for winning a SAG award for best ensemble in a drama series and Greys' Anatomy's Chandra Wilson for winning a SAG for best female actor in a drama series!

Go Grey's Anatomy!

last night

last night after work, a co-worker and I went to a new poetry spot called Lyrics In the Lou at the Filter Bar. it been around for a minute but last night, was my first time going. the place is small but kewl. the stage is visable from all the seats...the only issue is the noise coming from the bar can drown out the poet. yet, I know that also goes for most places poetry is held.

I got there late but the host, Mocca Latté, put me on the list and I did Tell Him I'm Waiting...i saw a couple of faces from Legacy: Poetry in Motion, Mocca, 16 Bars and the Movie Poetic....so that felt good. it also felt good to spit! I hdant done it in a loooooong time and I needed the practice, lol. its just getting me ready for next Thursday...i still have pieces to finish for that one....but it felt good to get out and hear some words!

Grateful Day :-)

its been a long time...i shouldnt have left you...without a strong beat to step too...Gratitude Wednesday, i missed you

i am grateful for:

the Creator allowing me once again to see the sun and breath the air. when so many others didnt.

my cousin who is getting better everyday.

a daughter that taught me how to skate on Mars....backwards!

the parents that find the time to put up with me.

poetry finding its way back into my pen.

the itch to spit.

the Zune that allows me to listen to poets and the poetry they write which inspires me.

snow that fell....and the snowball fight we had at the club. it felt good to be a kid again.

all of you for reading this blog and responding to the entries. especially yesterdays
poem.

the blessings giving to me by the Creator...those seen and unseen. those granted and ungranted.

its 4 am and im writing...

this was suppose to be another update. it was meant to be a post telling everyone how: im spitting a poetry venue here in St.Louis Feb 1 and i dont wanna go in doing the same old pieces. so, im back on the grind to write....trying to finish up some pieces already started. but as i sat at the computer looking at this blank 'blogger' page...i just started this piece. it sorta kinda makes since but then again, it doesnt....but it came and wouldnt stop coming (get ya minds out the gutter!). its freestyle ROUGH DRAFT.

once again we are back here
once, it meant something
to be here
because being here
well,
it meant we were safe

and here,
is where we could climb the tallest trees
without fear of falling
because falling
only meant floating
floating would became flying
and who is afraid of flying
when flying.....is freedom

we are blind to color, here
conceal love in arms
used only for hugs
claim the same bloodline
so we are brothers and sisters

we would pass the day away
reclined on clouds
sipping on rainbows
eating slices of pie
cut from the bluest of skies
and throwing PEACE signs up at the sun
as we slowly floated by
'what up homie'

we would have round table conversation
with God
and ask crazy questions like,
'God, can you give me super powers?'
or
'Could you make my siblings vanish,
not like forever, but like right before Christmas?'
or
'Can you send my Grandmother back for one night
so she could rock me to sleep
like she used to?'

then there were times
we laughed at how the stars
blushed so bright they twinkled
upon hearing our confessions
or
we would recieve nightly advice in hushed tones
from the moon
as we swam in the deep pool of her ambiance
she was strong, her pool was relaxing

we would write poetry on the wind
just to see the words come alive
before our eyes
then watch as the wind carried away
not just our words
but the pain that caused their concepetion
to some unknown place
so we could have peace of mind

here
is where we wanted to be
but here, is a place for a child
and were no longer a children
so, its back to face the imperfections
of adulthood
where we walk conjoined with our fears
and are romanced by insanity
wishing we could be children again

But here is still here
when we need that moment to hide
be without fear
to once more be a child
and dream

update

peace and blessings,

i hope that everyone is doing well in this young 07...me, i have been working HARD! having two jobs is no joke. here is a quick update of my world:

-im still; poor, brown and proud...and glad to be to have made it to 07. thanks to the Creator

-still havent heard from Malik or his mother. not going to press the issue, the ball is in her court.

-talked with my cousin a couple of times. its hard talking with her at times, her voice doesnt have the 'flare' it once had. but im grateful she is alive.

-Courtney is still running me,lol. i love that girl!

-going to get a Zune, so i can have enough space for my poetry and music cd's.

-working both jobs is kicking my azz....as is staying up late. something has to give.

-no school this semester but im not giving up...summer classes for me.

-still waiting for the creative juices to produce a poem or two....or three.

-still bald but i know have a beard now (lookin like Isaac Hayes..Eb, ask ya mom about him,lol)...ok, its not THAT thick but everyone seems to like it.

thats all for now...i will be more active once things settle down.
