Yesterday (Wednesday) at Work.

working retail has its rewards; helping someone find the perfect outfit, watching the scenes of my childhood through someone else (my mom wanting to see my clothes ON)and interesting conversations with customers.

then there are days like yesterday.

im walking to the breakroom...and i see a young couple (between 19 and 20)with a lil girl, shopping in the kids section. no big deal right? well, as i walk pass them, i see the female breaking a security censor off a coat. i stop, tell the young sister 'dont do it' and take the coat. i tell her, 'that im suppose to call the police' but i choose not to. she comments about really wanting the coat and pulls out some money out her pocket! im lookin at her like,'stupid ass kid makin out people look bad'...i dont know how much money she had, just the point she had money.

this is where it gets crazy.

me, not wanting to see another of my people handcuffed and paraded through the mall, give her back the coat. before giving her back the coat, i express my desire that she
pays for the coat rather than steal it....and with that, walked away.

im not sure if she paid for the coat or walked out with it. part of me wants to believe she paid for it...but in reality, i know she didnt. i was hoping that by showing some compassion, she would feel guilty and do the right thing. but now I feel
guilty for giving her the option. i should have just taken the coat and told them to leave the store.

i love my job but sometimes its a bitch!

you are officially an accessory/accomplice to the crime committed! OOH I am gonna tell your boss....LOL

Yeah just count that as a loss b/c 9 times out of 10 she stole that coat. This is the world we live in.

you gave her the choice, not on you anymore...even if she walked out without paying for it...i bet she will remember you later.
perhaps she will choose differently next time

i knew it! I told you you had a big heart and a great spirit and now you just proved it.

I applaud you for not wanting to see another one of "us" handcuffed and paraded through the mall, but maybe that's what she needed to learn a lesson. You gave her a prime opportunity to do right and pressumably she didn't. That's just ill! God was trying to teach her lesson in morality, decency, and integrity and she (pressumably) failed. The sins of the parents fall on the children they say. Maybe something of her childs will be stolen and then maybe she'll get it.

You tried copa and you tried to teach her; not your fault she couldn't get it.

Baby...all you can do is provide the opportunities...each person has to make their own way. You made her at least think...thats something if you got nothing else..

Copa! I wanted to let you know that I'm glad you gave her the option. You being a black man speaking truth into young minds and giving them time to reflect is much better than just making the option for her. And even if she didn't pay for it, your voice is her guilt.

Sometimes I feel our people have no clue of how many people are wanting us to fail.
