i havent blogged in minute, so im making up today. Tomorrow will post my grateful list (i have a lot to be thankful for)
Thursday
i went to see the Punany Poets. i had been yearning to see them live since watching them on HBO's Real Sex (HBO needS to bring that back along with Def Poetry AND the Wire) about five years ago. the poets from that installment of the group are gone. Jessica Holter, the founder, being the only holdover. i wasnt that impressed with them.....
Jessica Holter is beautiful hostess with nice wordplay. Golden was the best part of show (in my opinion) with her mixture of poetry and dancing. Slam’s poetry was cool but it was his physic that had the womens attention. Bo Ellis? i just didnt see what the big deal was…
the show was still sensual, funny and a serious promoter of black love while being responsible. Jessica pointed out that when she started Punany, African-American woman made up 25% of all AIDS cases….now, they make up 70%.
sensual and educational....a very good mix.
Friday
i attended Cafe Soul....(which only happens once a month)offers singer, poets and musicians a place to show their skills with its open mic. its been around for almost two years BUT i have only been twice. this past Friday, was great. there wasnt a lot of people, the energy was hot and the dj was on fire!
it felt good to go out to a "smoke free" venue and party without worrying about someone fighting. people bumped into each other without issue. danced with strangers. laughed, because it felt good! it was a great release.
i had never performed there so nerves were on edge. i was the last on the mic doing, "X is the Unknown Factor aka the New Orleans piece" and got a lot of love for it. it also hit me...im better known OUTSIDE of St.Louis than IN St.Louis! im going to start trying to perform more here...not just to keep the pieces fresh in my mind but to get my name out there. also made contact with a brother who has his own studio, so i might have to hit him up to do some recording :-)

I am glad to see you out and about in the "scene" Yes you gotta build up your cred in the city... pretty soon people will start contacting you to put together their spots. I envy cuz San Anto no longer has spots where you can go and hear poetry like that.
Do your AlBUM!! I'm waiting.
