Lets get better.....

this past friday, i was once again able to do something i hadnt been able to do in a while: i went to Legacy for Spoken Word Grooves! oooh, it felts soooo good to be out again listening to poetry. i dont think anyone understands how important the poetry spots are too me. i dont do clubs, unless im working, so this is the only time i go out. it was extra cool because the feature was my homie Marc Marcel, its always good to see the brother....he of course did a good feature. i cant wait to get into his new cd?

as much as i LOVE Legacy, its been around eight years, some of the poets and poetry had me yearning for more. i know there are different levels for poets....but a lot of these folks arent striving to better themselves as writers. they arent students of the art....i understand that poetry is, to writing from ones heart, but somewhere you have to expand your writing skills and show some growth. there was a time at Legacy, that the poets would be sitting at tables writing because they were inspired by another poet OR re-writing their work to improve upon something already written. i dont get the vibe anymore...its as if the poets believe that they are writing "hot shit" when in reality, they arent!

so we search for answers of how to improve Legacy and bring it back to where it once was....without scaring off new writers.

it will be an interesting task.
