whats better than discovering new music?
re-discovering old music!
I forgot how much of a musical mastermind Stevie Wonder really is. i was scrolling through Stevie's cds on the Zune Marketplace and was instantly transported back into time. i remembered being in love with the songs; As and All I Do, jamming to Master Blaster and Quite Storm dedications of 'Ribbon in the Sky'....ok, i never really called in to request the song but if it came on, i dedicated it to the person i was on the phone with.
how many of you remember caking (got that from the young folks) on the phone till someone fell asleep....you go to sleep first. no, you go. no, you go...hahahaha!
ok, so as i went through the Stevie cd's, it hit me how many of his songs had been covered by other artist....Intro, Lauryn Hill, Jodeci, George Michael, Mary J Blige, Coolio and of course Luther Vandross ALL dipped into Stevie's musical catalogue to find hits. it takes a lot of faith to try remaking a song by a legend....but all the artist mentioned did a good job. Yet, there is nothing like the original...Mr Stevie Wonder singing his own songs. I mean come one...how creative are you, when you can turn a BIRTHDAY SONG into damn near a national anthem!!
so here is MY top five Stevie Wonder songs:
1. As (also known as Always)....just a smooth ass track.
2. All I Do...this is a deep house classic track. cant help but move to it!
3. Higher Ground....can a track get any funkier?! then there was the message...DOPE!
4. Ribbon in the Sky....THE wedding song.
5. Fingertips Pt. 2....is it just me or can you feel Stevie having fun?
runner-ups:
1. These Three Words
2. Superstition.
3. Master Blaster (Jammin).
4. Isnt She Lovely.
5. Signed, Sealed and Delivered
Eddie Murphy was right...Stevie Wonder is a musical genius~
