Big Poppa E and the Amnesty Slam

sup,

over the weekend, my brother from another mother, Big Poppa E rolled into town to host an Amnesty International Slam. we didn't get a chance to hangout but we had fun at the slam. we joked and clowned around....i even got him to do the Wussy Boy poem, which I had never heard but have heard a lot about...if you didn't know better, you would have think Big Poppa E and I have known each for years...instead of less than a year.

i respect the dude a lot not just as a slam poet..but a poet period. most "slam poets" cant flip from funny to serious..but E can. plus the dude has been doing this for a while and still doing. when most have retired and moved on to greener pastures, he still has that hunger..which to me is kewl. as a newbie, we need those that have been around awhile for their guidance when doing this art.

yet, E is my homie....he showed me a gang of love at Nationals in ABQ and we just clicked....the funniest things about Saturday were:
1. E, doing a poem about being short. im writing a poem about being short.
2. when one of the poets got up to spit, E and i both shouted; "short people rock!". it was coincidence, nothing rehearsed.
3. getting him to do Wussy Boy piece. the people loved it.

the slam was kewl as well....Congrats to Mama Blue for the winning..there were some folks i had never seen before...one was a member of the STL Slam team from 2001. waaaaaaay before my time, lol. the space was kewl,if you could ignore all the whizzing sounds come from the counter area. my only issue with the slam was....i wish more non-slam poets would have come out to support it. it was for a GREAT cause (i am now a member of Amnesty International)and the way things are going, we as poets never know when a line will get us put the glass. so, we need to support groups like Amnesty International.
