peace,
brothers and sisters...someone tell me why is the government making a big deal about the Patriot Act?
oh yea....the government finally made something its been doing for years, LEGAL....WOW! I don't know about you but I feel soooo much safer. I mean...this will stop those DAMNED terrorist who are out to destroy America. but what the those OTHER terrorist.....
I mean...with all this new freedom, maybe the government will spy on these big companies so we won't have another Enron or more jobs leaving America.
Maybe the government will spy on these politicians....who are SUPPOSE to be representing the people but have REALLY forgotten the people.
Maybe the government will spy on these educators who sing the song about better education for Inner-city youth....get a ton of money....only to have the educational system decline.
Hey, maybe they will spy on those who make it easy for someone to buy a gun on the streets.
I could go on and on but the truth is this: for all that spying to occur, the government would have to spy on itself.....and we KNOW that's not about to happen.
so, brothers and sister....watch what you write in these blogs and say on the phone. my fellow poets, watch what you write in those poems. the government is watching and listening to YOU while the REAL criminals run free.
Damn...there goes another page for my Homeland security file.
Sarah, my file is getting as big as yours!

Fuck Al Sharpton pt. 2
peace,
in order to be fair, im posting the link to what "Rev" Al Sharpton said about the Boondocks cartoon.
what Al said: (http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/sns-ap-people-sharpton,1,769671.story?coll=chi-entertainmentfront-hed&ctrack=1&cset=true)
yea, uh huh....he worried about a Cartoon that comes on late at night but not about the videos that are show 24/7 or the lyrics pumpin from car stereo's!
Get the fuck outta here! holla at me when you ask Time-Warner for an apology!

ps...please note: i said nothing negative about "Rev Al" and his perm. this isnt about the mans hair. its about him wanting to be something he isnt, A leader! the way Martin, Malcolm and Marcus were. he is just a spotlight hog and a media whore!

Fuck Al Sharpton
peace,
ok, so its almost 4am and im wide awake....im a night owl, i cant help it.
so, im reading my sister Queue's blog and she makes note of, Al Sharpton talking about picketing the Carton Network about an episode of the Boondocks. the episode was one about Martin Luther King awaking after being in a coma from his gunshot wound. Martin, so disgusted with the way African-American's of today are acting, calls the people "Nigga's" and says he is moving to Canada!
now, at first i wasnt feeling the episode but about 3/4 of the way through....i saw the humor. we as African-Americans are still riding the back of the bus, even if we are driving Bentley's. we have gained so much as a people...yet, still cant see things arent equal. ok, sure..they show you the rappers with their bling and their cars, the movie stars and a couple of rich african-american business people. thats cool, but its still only a small portion of the African-American population. the MAJORITY, is still living under the poverty line, lack decent health benefits AND arent even getting "second hand" educations.
we have giving up the fight. there are NO...i repeat NO, strong African-American leaders today. every time an African-American leaders tries to step up, the system cuts them at the knees(example: the mayor of New Orleans). the African-American leaders of today are political pimps and media whores who only step up when its time to get on TV! Jesse Jackson and AL Sharpton running for president? ok, when Jesse first tried, it was cool but who the FUCK is Al Sharpton to be running? the only reason the Democrats gave him air-time..is so they could show African-Americans how much they looooove us more than the republicans.
Fuck Al Sharpton...if he really wanted to picket something, let his azz picket BET, MTV and these record labels for not doing more to clean up rap! lets have him picket Washington on behalf of all these Americans losing their jobs to Mexico and India! let him picket about "why" inner-city schools are STILL not equal to suburban schools in 2006. let him picket about the war and those dying so Bush and his buddies
can have fatter pockets!
when he pickets against that (and i dont mean just ONE measly march)...instead of a carton about a man Al Sharpton will never eva, eva, eva, eva be....then we can talk. until then....FUCK AL SHARPTON! i bet he didnt even watch the episode!
im done venting...

Performance Art/Poetry
Peace and blessings,
last night(Wed), we had our weekly slam and i came in 2nd place out of seven poets. it felt good to be around other people that write. its not the SAME vibe that i get from being at Legacy, but it still felt good. the winner last night(Wed), Shugga Shane, is a good writer AND a great performer. he use of body language and verbal tempo during his pieces is outstanding. And THATS what i need to do...learn how to change my verbal tempo when performing. i also need to add, just a liiiiiittle more flavor to the pieces. it was a close finish though....so close that i threw away the idea of doing "NEW" pieces and broke out an old faithful for the last round.
having only been performing less than a year, im still happy with my the progress. i learn something new EACH time i take the stage. Something that will make me better at this art form that i love so much. the hardest thing for me, is memorizing a piece. after deciding to slam at Southern Fried 05 (my very first slam), it took me two months to memorize two pieces. the choice to slam was made in February, Southern Fried was in June. At the time, i was working only one job and not working a lot of hours. Now, its two jobs, more hours...less free time. And thats without adding the Courtney (my 12 going on 25 year old daughter) factor into the equation.
but its kewl...where there is a will, there is a way. the Creator didnt put the pen back into my hand and granted me countless blessing to do what i do for no reason. all this has a purpose and for once, i plan on seeing something through! so, that my kids, family and friends can be proud of me for once.
thats all for now....
