Southern Fried Poetry Slam....
peace and blessings,
ok...its been a minute since i have updated...i was in a lil funk but im back now! all it took was a trip to see my family at Southern Fried Poetry Slam held in Birmingham, Al. it felt good to get away from St.Louis for a while and release the negative energy that had been building inside me. i wasnt even upset not to be competing this year(even though the plan was to do so). i was just happy to be with my peoples....nothing was going to mess this trip up for me! not the court date prior
to me leaving, not the 12 hour bus ride or the funky people on the bus....
i saw so many familiar faces and a lot of new ones....all brought some fiyah to the stage! cats to look out for in the future: Cuban from Florida (Southern Fried Indie champ for 06 AND my brother!), Poetic Vibes from Florida and Henzbo from Bowling Green.
The championship went to Columbia National Team....who had stiff competition from Black on Black Rhyme(who had what seemed like 40 teams there, lol)and Bowling Green.
BUT the very best part of the trip was the Civil Rights Memorial. the images from the statues alone were enough to make one cry. it didnt help that i was reading Angela Davis' autobiography while going down there and it was filled with her stories
of growning up in Birmingham.
i had a great time....i feel refreshed about poetry and slam. i even took a couple of pictures, there are only 67 out of 270 posted. check them out:
